Smoke Back in the Room on Lighting?

Brushes Up Chimney Sweeps - Andover Winchester Chimney Sweeps

Does the stove or fire smoke back into the room on lighting?

Provided that you have had your chimney recently swept, smoke back in the room on lighting is often caused by a cold damp plug of air hanging in the chimney.

This is quite frequent in stoves with outside metal flues.

When lighting a fire on cold days, the key is to use plenty of good dry kindling with 3 or 4 firelighters or 5 or 6 scrunched up balls of newspaper, with no logs on initially, to get some rapid heat into the flue to punch out the cold plug of air.
